Family Support Centre gets timely assistance

The Family Support Centre (FSC) under the Port Moresby General Hospital has received a timely donation, thanks to staff at the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC).

The IRC staff donated in cash and kind to the centre to assist family and sexual violence survivors.

IRC presented K1 108.70 and old belongings, including library books, crayons, colour pencils, children’s clothing and beddings.

IRC also provides a safe place for victims of family and sexual violence and IRC commissioner general Betty Palaso said this is part of their support to the community.

Palaso said: “We not only want to be seen as the government organisation chasing people for their tax payments but we also want to show that we care for what happens in the community.

“This is just one of our outreach to the community as we also support the Male Advocacy Network against Violence on Women and the Gender Equity Social Inclusion policy.”

FSC clinical manager Tessie Soi thanked IRC for the kind gesture as this will go a long way in helping the survivors who need them most.

Soi said FSC is privileged to have people that have a good heart to help those in need as the centre has issues with finance.

FSC receives up to 1000 domestic and sexual violence survivors every year and deals with up to 30-40 women and children every month.

It provides five services, including counseling and prevention of HIV, pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STD).
