Colonels get employment contract confirmation

Eight colonels officially signed their employment contracts today at the Government House in Port Moresby.

Colonels including the Defence Force  Chief of Staff, Colonel Mark Goina were all present to have their contracts  signed by the Acting Governor General,  Speaker Theo Zurenuoc  and the PNGDF Commander Gilbert Toropo.

Also at the ceremony was the Secretary for Defence Vali Asi.

Other notable colonels sworn in  included the Chief of personnel, John Rakatani, Chief of Logistics Benoma Siria, Joint Force Commander Ezekia Wenzel and Chief of Operations Siale Diro.

Commander Toropo says that the promotions of the colonels were all approved in 2014 with about two finalised this year.

However the contracts were only signed now after final administrative issues with the contracts were ironed out.

The contracts are for four years  tenure.

Toropo says that this is a great opportunity for the PNGDF to develop it's higher ranking officer corps.

Meantime, the contracts will be to also outline and highlight various set roles and objectives that come with the positions, Commander Toropo says.
