National airline Air Niugini will be staging an Open Day in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands on Saturday 31st October as part of the airline’s 42nd anniversary.
It’s a way of bringing Air Niugini to other parts of Papua New Guinea instead of having all anniversary celebrations centred around Port Moresby.
Air Niugini chief executive cfficer Simon Foo said the open day activities will be staged at Hagen Park Secondary School. The day is open to the general public, starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm.
Different departments within the airline including Engineering, Cabin Crew, Human Resources, Marketing and others will have the opportunity to show what each department does.
Career information on Air Niugini’s pilot and engineering cadet programs as well as other areas within the airline will be provided. It’s an opportunity for students to attend and find out more about the job opportunities within the airline.
Mr Foo said “It’s an opportunity for the public, especially students to come along, ask questions and get first-hand information on a future career with Air Niugini.”
Air Niugini partners including PNG Tourism Promotion Authority, National Airports Corporation and two flying schools from Fiji are also participate. The entry is free and the public in Mt Hagen is encouraged to attend.
Air Niugini’s corporate function will be held in Hagen tomorrow, Friday 31st.
The corporate function is for the airline’s key business partners while the staff function is to recognize the airline’s longest serving staff for their service and contribution to the airline. Total 130 staff members will receive their awards this year after clocking in 25, 30, 35 and 40 years respectively with Air Niugini.
Air Niugini commenced operations on 01st November 1973 when the first Fokker F27 Friendship lifted off Jacksons Airport on a flight to Lae, Rabaul and Kieta.
Air Niugini so far operates to 25 domestic routes and 11 international destinations in Australia, Asia and the Pacific
