8 bullet wounds on chase victim’s body

A post mortem has been done on the body of the late Nelson Rema who died after a high speed chase by police on November 26th at Waigani.

Rema was driving a small car carrying his brother, Private James Bono, and his aunt Londe Pindia when they were chased as they drove through a road block conducted by police.

His family told LOOP PNG that initial medical examination found 8 bullet wounds on his body.

The coroner’s report on the post mortem test will be released to the police and the family.

Meantime the Rema family has lodged an official complaint with police over their claims of police brutality that took place on the night of the shooting.

Bono and Pindia this week gave to police their account of the events that led to the shooting of Rema.

Rema a mechanic was 25 years old.

Meanwhile police say they can begin a crime report on the incident as they now have statements from the two main witnesses.

Police Commissioner Gary Baki has also denied claims that police spat on and urinated into the mouth of Rema’s aunt that night.
