2017 election meeting to involve all levels of government

The National Government aims to involve all tiers of the government system to assist in the delivery of the 2017 National General Election.

Chief Secretary to Government Isaac Lupari revealed that all local level and provincial government heads will meet with Electoral Commissioner Patilas Gamato and the Election Steering Committee on April 11.

“The Electoral Commissioner and the steering committee will brief provincial administrators in the planning process (for the 2017 election) so they can engage them in some discussions,” Lupari said.

“So they can collectively provide inputs to the plan that has been prepared so we can make sure the elections have all the government approach, right from the LLG and provincial level.

“Hopefully after the meeting, we will announce the plan and how much it (the election) will cost and how it will be done.

The National Government has allocated K10 million in this year budget to carry out the preparation for the 2017 National Election.

The Electoral Commissioner revealed to Loop PNG in an early interview that PNGEC will need K192 million to effectively prepare for the coming election.
