Gaming Board steps in to support men’s cancer awareness

The Papua New Guinea National Gaming Control Board (PNGNGCB) has honored its five-year support with the PNG Cancer Foundation (PNGCF) yesterday at the Royal Papua Yacht Club in Port Moresby.

The Gaming Board presented a cheque worth K30, 000 to Cancer Foundation in support of the Men’s Cancer Awareness campaign next month.

The National Gaming Board CEO Imelda Agon when presenting the cheque said NGCB is proud to support and be part of an interesting awareness campaign that is dealing with lives of citizens.

“We believe that men’s cancer is something that hasn’t been talked about as opposed to the women’s cancer so for NGCB to come onboard in terms of education of men in the country we believe that it will actually make a difference and create awareness among men,” Agon said.

“Due to our cultural diversity, norms and taboos that make it difficult for us especially men to talk about cancers that affect our private parts, we (NGCB) as a government entity believe in forming the partnership with Cancer foundation and committing K30, 000 each year will help create awareness for PNG in general,” she added.

Agon also urged men in the country to take advantage of this opportunity to break the silence of cancer and not to see cancer as a women’s disease but it also affects men.
