Happy Universal children’s day to all our CLC students

Students of Mercy Care & The Reaper Community Learning Centres were delighted to be visited by Digicel PNG Foundation and volunteers from Digicel PNG on Universal Children’s Day for the Foundation’s Sharing the Spirit of Christmas Program.

The occasion in Erima and Morata 4 also saw the opening of two Kapa Structures (Open Air Classrooms) for both CLCs which they earned through the CLC Sustainability Program.

“Our CLCs are institutions that provide a space for children to develop a love for education and pursue it to the end. Although of informal status, these CLCs provide programs to encourage literacy and to give the children they serve a fighting chance to make something of their lives,” said CEO Beatrice Mahuru.

“We’re delighted to know that the commencement of our Sharing the Spirit of Christmas Program ties in with the Universal Children’s Day so it’s imperative that our Digicel volunteers are made aware of what this special day signifies and they do their part as citizens to improve togetherness, awareness and improving children’s welfare.”

The Christmas Program has also been supported by Theodist Stationery and Paradise Foods & Beverages who have provided discounts for the gifts as well as food and drink items for the 1000 plus students to enjoy.

Established in October 2008, Digicel PNG Foundation has directly invested K77 million in PNG’s rural, remote and socially marginalized communities across all 22 provinces directly impacting over 760,000 people.
