K50,000 for petroleum conference

ANZ has established itself as a principal sponsor of the 2017 PNG Mining and Petroleum Conference and Trade Fair.

The PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum announced that ANZ cemented its position as a lead sponsor by presenting a cheque of K50,000 to support PNG’s biggest resource industry event.

The fair will be staged from November 28th to the 30th at the Stanley Hotel and Suites in Port Moresby.

Chamber executive director, Dr. Albert Mellam, said: “ANZ has been a long-standing partner to various mining and petroleum projects in the country and is one of the most respected financial institutions in the Pacific.

“ANZ has had many years of providing sound economic advice to economies around the world and to have it come on board to support the conference and also provide the conference its chief economist, Mr Richard Yetsenga, speaks volumes of the bank’s commitment to PNG and its resource industry.

“On behalf of the Chamber, its 220-plus members and its Council, we thank ANZ for its support.”

ANZ PNG chief executive officer, Mark Baker, said: “ANZ is fully committed to supporting the resource sector in PNG. We recognised the importance of this conference to the industry and are happy to support it through this sponsorship and sharing our global insights as well.”

The conference is expected to attract well over 600 delegates from the mining and petroleum sectors. A trade exhibition showcasing almost 40 different companies and institutions will be running parallel to the conference.

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill will open the conference with a keynote address focusing on PNG’s economy in a global context.

Apart from ANZ, the other principal sponsors include ExxonMobil PNG, Newcrest Mining, Oil Search, Santos and Total Waste Management, while Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited and Total E&P PNG are major sponsors.

The other supporting sponsors include China Railway Construction Engineering Group (PNG), Click Pacific, DuPont Protective Apparel, International SOS, Kumul Petroleum Academy and South Pacific Employment Institute, Mineral Resources Authority, Nacap Australia, Newcrest Mining, Ok Tedi Mining Ltd, SMEC PNG Ltd, Upstream, PNG Forest Products, and Quest Exploration Drilling (PNG).
