Woman’s body floats downriver, husband detained

On March 15th, community leaders at Four-Mile Kandis Market reported to police a missing person using the Lae police emergency toll free number.

Three-Mile police attended and were told that a man and his wife had gone to their garden early in the morning, at about 5.30am, but the husband returned alone at around 10am and reported that his wife had gone missing.

A search conducted by the community proved to be unsuccessful.

Police gave them until the next day to continue searching or to wait and see if she returns home.

Indian anti-trafficking activists raped after staging street play

The women were forced into cars and raped in a "secluded area", police told BBC Hindi.

Police say they are investigating the incident but have not made any arrests.

The women were working with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) to raise awareness about human trafficking in the remote Khunti district.

About 40,000 rape cases were reported in India in 2016.

Many cases, however, are believed to go unreported because of the stigma that is attached to rape and sexual assault.

And police are now appealing to women in the province to be mindful of their timing when moving about.

Acting Superintendent David Seine says most of these rape cases were reported to have occurred between 10pm and 3am.

Committed by opportunists, the PPC extended his appeal to the public in Goroka to be mindful of their surroundings and be accompanied by males when moving about at night.

India girl, 16, burnt alive after Jharkhand rape

Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the attacks in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.

Police said the elders had ordered the accused rapists to do 100 sit-ups and pay a 50,000 rupee (£550; $750) fine as punishment.

They were so enraged they beat the girl's parents then set her on fire.

"The two accused thrashed the parents and rushed to the house where they set the girl ablaze with the help of their accomplices," Ashok Ram, the officer in charge of the local police station, told AFP news agency.

Woman with disability raped, killed: Police

The lifeless and battered body of the woman was found at her family residence at East Boroko, Port Moresby.

The NCD metropolitan superintendent, Commander Perou N’Dranou, said according to reports received from Homicide, the body of the woman, from Central Province, was found under the house.

He said following observations from the homicide unit on ground at that time, the woman could have been beaten and raped in the early hours of the morning – between 2 and 3am.

However, it is still unclear on whether it was a gang rape or not. 

GBV agenda hits parliament

The East Sepik Governor, Allan Bird, made references to the recent pack rape of six female students, the attempted kidnapping of a female media person and the torture case of a six year old girl.

Governor Bird spoke about outstanding cases of abuse and violence perpetrated towards women in the country.

The Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill in response said that this is an important agenda given that the large majority of our population are equally concerned.

Wanted criminal shot dead

The notorious criminal who was also wanted for a string of armed robberies was shot along the river bank after police were alerted through the toll free number, when a couple was attacked by the deceased and three other criminals.

The couple were the second pair to be attacked around 6pm yesterday; the man was stabbed three times, on his neck, stomach and thighs..   When police intervened, the deceased, armed with a knife and homemade gun opened fired; he was shot during the gun fight.

The victim accompanied by his wife were taken to the hospital where he now recovers. 

Elderly Gulf man charged with minor’s rape

The incident allegedly occurred from 2016 to November 4th, 2017, at Joyce Bay, Sabama.

The victim, a 13-year-old female, reported that she was 11 years old when the suspect used to entice her with money in return for sexual favours.

The victim reported the matter after her relatives questioned her upon noticing changes in her physical appearance.

The parents and relatives of the victim apprehended the suspect and handed him over to Police.

The man is now locked up in the cells awaiting further police action.

Men arrested, charged for raping 19yo

Police report that on the 22nd of October, at around 1pm, the victim, a 19-year-old female, and another female were walking back from school when the two suspects approached and threatened them with bush knives.

The suspects, from Waipakam village, aged 20 and 19, forced both girls into a nearby bush. However, one of the girls managed to escape.

The 19-year-old girl, unfortunately, was taken into the bushes and raped.

After raping the girl, the suspects escaped. She sought help and was taken to the Kompiam Hospital for medical treatment.

20-year rape sentence for father-of-three

The 36-year-old father of three was earlier convicted by the Waigani National Court on three counts of rape.

Paul Supa was among 11 others who abducted the woman as she was returning from the Six-Mile market on 18 October, 2015, where they raped her.

Excessive use of violence with guns and knives were used to threaten her, fortunately, her relatives came to her rescue.

Justice Martin Ipang, in handing down his sentence, says despite the country being full of resources, law and order remains a big issue.
