Australia looks forward to Marape addressing its parliament

Australia’s Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, Tim Ayres, said this when presenting ‘The Australian Government Perspective’ at the 17th PNG Resources and Energy Investment Conference on Monday, December 11th, at the Sydney International Convention Centre.

“Both side of the Parliament House and the Speaker have agreed that on the 8th of February next year I will be addressing the Australian Parliament.

“This is the first time ever a Pacific Island leader is given that opportunity to address Australian Parliament.

“We have set history and I think it just reflects the mindset that is changing in Canberra now.

“I was happy when the Prime Minister proved himself initially when he addressed the media, he used a line called Papua New Guinea and Australia are called leaders to lead in the Pacific island nations.

Australian parliament makes formal apology to rape accuser

Brittany Higgins' case sparked a sweeping review that identified a "boys club" culture in parliament in which sexual harassment is rife.

The apology in parliament on Tuesday was also for others who have suffered sexual misconduct or bullying there.

Mr Morrison has previously faced criticism over his responses.

Ms Higgins, a former staffer for two ministers, was seated in the House of Representatives public gallery to watch the apologies by the prime minister, the opposition leader and others.

Australia is PNG’s best friend, says Abbott

Abbott said this on Monday (November 08th) during the Federation Chamber meeting in the Australian Parliament in Canberra.

He said Australia continued to focus on countries in South East Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the United States and were more important to them.

“Australia and PNG have geography in common, but we also have a future to work on as well as a past to honour and respect,” said Abbott.

Abbott was in PNG recently where he presented a speech at the Anglicare PNG Annual Dinner on November 02nd in Port Moresby.
