One rape case every week: EHP police

There has been one reported rape case every week in the Eastern Highlands Province, says the Provincial Police Commander.

And police are now appealing to women in the province to be mindful of their timing when moving about.

Acting Superintendent David Seine says most of these rape cases were reported to have occurred between 10pm and 3am.

Committed by opportunists, the PPC extended his appeal to the public in Goroka to be mindful of their surroundings and be accompanied by males when moving about at night.

Meanwhile, police in the province are facing a shortage of fuel supply, adding challenges to their policing duties in the province with the second largest population in the Highlands region.

PPC Seine says the highway patrol police are doing their best in ensuring the safety of frequent road users travelling between Kainantu and Kassam Pass.
