DoW says road deaths caused by lack of road safety awareness

The tragic loss of life has a long lasting economic and human cost making this a critical issue to look at in PNG.

Secretary for Works Department, David Wereh in his opening line reminded participants that road safety is a shared responsibility and that it important that we all work together to save lives on our country’s roads.

He said the launching of the new DVD, fields guide and training for safer traffic management is an important step forward in the Departments goal of a safer and more reliable road network in Papua New Guinea.

Agiru Highway to link Southern Highlands and Gulf provinces

Department of Works Secretary David Wereh who signed on behalf of the State said the missing link between Samberigi to Erave is expected to be completed next year.

He added that the highway when opened next year will be named after late Hela Governor Anderson Agiru who initiated the idea to connect the Highlands region to the coast when he was Southern Highlands Governor.   

A local company, CIVPAC Ltd has been awarded the contract which went through the public tender process.
