PNGRFU President: We want to be world class

President of the PNG Rugby Football Union (PNGRFU), Steven Kami, says he wants to see PNG become a permanent member of the International Rugby Board (IRB) world circuit.

Speaking at the announcement of the PNG Pukpuks Sevens side for the upcoming HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Wellington and Sydney, Kami said him and his board want PNG to be world class.

After Wellington and Sydney, the Pukpuks will look to the Hong Kong fixtures in the hope to qualify for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in 2017-18.

“We want to be world class and Hong Kong gives us that chance. If we need to, we’ll fine tune again for next year.

“What we want to do is get progressively better. What we want to is eventually arrive at full time squad and borrow a bit from the league boys and establish the squad,” said Kami.

“At the moment, we’re not improving every year, we go up to a certain level and we go back done. I want us to be building on each year.

“It will be good if we can get it this year, but we have another chance next year. But we want to be there and we can.”
