Team NCD bagged gold at the BSP 7th PNG Games after defeating Team Southern Highlands at Kimbe Secondary on Saturday.

Heading into the final round of matches, NCD were leading on six points while Milne Bay and Madang were both tied on four points, with NCD taking on Southern Highlands and Milne Bay and Madang playing each other in the final round.

In the morning match, NCD bowled out Southern Highlands for only 63 runs with the Southern Highlands unable to handle the quality bowling of NCD. NCD opening batsmen, Oala Seura and Tanti Heni, had no issues, chasing down the low total in less than five overs and winning the gold medal.

In the afternoon match and the match of the day, Milne Bay posted a mammoth 8/207 off their allotted twenty overs. In reply, Madang’s captain, Eric Owen, blasted a brilliant half century to give Madang some hope, but as soon as he fell for 52, Madang collapsed to be all out for 100 in 15.5 overs.

These results meant that NCD finished the competition undefeated on eight points, winning gold for the second consecutive PNG Games.

Milne Bay finished second on six points while Madang scooped bronze on four points.

It was the first time since the PNG Games in 2010 that Milne Bay and Madang won medals.
