PNG embassy hosts female soccer players

The PNG Embassy in Washington, D.C. hosted the nine female soccer players and coach to hear about their experiences with the Sports Visitor Program in the United States.

During the visit on Tuesday, the group discussed ways sports can help youth learn key values, leadership, teamwork and conflict resolution.

The courageous 9 high school students have been brave travellers in the cold to pay a visit to Tilden Middle School in Bethesda, Maryland, where they met with students of various abilities.

At the end of their visit, these amazing young women had made new friends and learned the importance of being gentle, patient and understanding with those who have special needs.

The Sports Visitors Program emphasises the need to value everyone, and that everyone has valuable skills and abilities to contribute to society.

Following their visit to Tilden Middle School, they went on a city tour and visited various Washington monuments, including the White House, the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol Building.

The group travelled to the XL Sports World in Central Florida where they played a friendly soccer match against the special Olympic team.

Upon return, these young women will have new understanding and appreciation for the fact that everyone is capable of achieving their goals even through sports.

The young women travelled out of the country in early December.
