Miall is national women’s rugby league coach

Current PNG School Boys U16 coach, Dennis Miall has been appointed the head coach of the PNG national women’s rugby league team.

PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) Board Director, Don Fox made the announcement after a meeting over the weekend.

“The PNGRFL board endorsed the appointment of Dennis Miall as head coach following recommendations from an independent selection panel,” said Fox.

Fox, who presided over the meeting, said Miall’s immediate task is to prepare the national women’s side for the World Cup in Sydney, Australia later this year.

“PNGRFL CEO Reatau Rau has contacted Dennis of his appointment and has accepted the position.

“Terms and conditions of his appointment and training programs will be discussed when they meet next week,” said Fox.

Miall who is currently the deputy principal of Lae Secondary School said he was honoured and privileged to be appointed head coach.

“Thank you for the confidence the PNGRFL Board has shown towards my appointment.

“I accept the appointment and will give my best to help our women do us proud,” said Miall.

Miall, 45, from Siassi, Morobe Province has been the PNG U16 Schoolboys coach since 2012.

He guided the PNG Junior Kumuls U19 side to gold medal glory at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in 2014. 

He has been head coach of the Lae Schoolboys since 2005, head coach of the Northern Confederate schoolboys since 2012 and since 2014 has been head coach of the JKT Morobe Tigers in the Lae rugby league competition.

Miall holds an ARL Level 1 and PNGRFL Level 2 coaching certificates and the PNG Sports Foundation High Performance Certificate competency in Sports strapping.

Miall’s appointment as head coach is for one year.
