K100 for every home run hit

For every home run hit, the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association will donate K100 to the National AIDS Council Secretariat.

The PMMI 5th Corporate Slow Pitch Competition, which started on Saturday, has the support of 29 companies for this season.

The president of the PMWSA said the competition, which is now in its fifth season, has already collected about a thousand kina from last season’s grand final.

“The theme of the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association corporate slow pitch is ‘Hit a homerun against HIV and AIDS’,” said Jenny Paak.

“It’s an ongoing awareness for us. This is also one of it whereby we are promoting the cause, and we are also creating awareness for our affiliates on HIV and AIDS.”

Proceeds will be donated by the end of this year to the AIDS council or charitable organisations that deal with the disease.

The competition initially started with a few interested corporate teams.

The number of teams rose to 40, but had to be reduced to 32 due to space limitation at the Bisini softball precinct.
