Barras squad announced for World T20 qualifier

It was no easy task selecting these group of players, but Cricket PNG has finally decided on who will be representing PNG in the ICC World T20 East-Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier.

The HEBOU PNG Barramundis squad that will be flying to Fiji in a few weeks’ time was announced at the Cricket Office today.

The 14-man team will once again be led by veteran cricketer, Assad Vala.

During the announcement at Amini Park today, Vala said though the team is made up of mostly young players, he is confident in their abilities.

“We’ve done a lot of hard work over the past 5 months. There’s a lot we’ve been training for,” stated Vala.

“We are eager to get out onto the field and represent our country.”

National Selector Taunao Vai said it was no easy task to select this group of players.

He said the selection committee considered the input of National coach Joe Dawes and captain Vala, including the general performance of the players over the last few months.

Major omissions from this squad are veteran Barramundis’ wicket-keeper Jack Vare-Kevere and all-rounder Mahuru Dai.

Nosiana Pokana returns to the squad after the ICC cleared his suspicious action in June while for the first time, Steven Eno was selected in the Hebou PNG Barramundis Squad.
