Academy players grateful to Hunters

The four academy players that were part of the SP Hunters train-on squad are going away having learned a lot from the camp.

Aidan Arusa, Joseph Mocke, Muka Peter Kula, and Thompson Yakumba were the four academy players pushing for a spot in the final 29-man squad that was announced yesterday.

But all agreed it was a good experience and they have come off knowing where and how they can improve as rugby league players.

While they didn’t make the final cut, they were grateful to the Hunters.

“I thought it was going to be easy after getting selected into the train-on squad, but what we were doing was very hard. It was a great experience for me training with the Hunters,” said Arusa.

“To keep up with the Hunters training was very difficult, you have to step up and give it a 110%. It was very challenging,” said Mocke.

“Training with the Hunters was very challenging for me but I learnt many new things,” said Kula.

“It was good. It was very tough. We all came this far and learnt a lot. Thank you Hunters for the experience,” said Yakumba.

Hunters coach, Michal Marum said the four academy players will be released and join a Digicel Cup franchise club to gain some more experience.

“They will continue to train with the Hunters and hopefully this experience will guide them onto bigger things,” said Marum.
