49 affiliate leagues to attend PNGRFL AGM in Lae

CEO of the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL), Reatau Rau has revealed that only one nomination for the position of Chairman was received when nominations closed at 5pm last Friday.

He added that one nomination each for the Northern, Southern and Highlands Confederates Directors was also received also at the close of nominations on Friday.

Rau said no nominations were received from the New Guinea Islands (NGI) Confederate.

“Nominations received from various affiliated leagues in the three Confederates – Southern, Highlands and Northern – show one nominee for the Chairman’s post and one for the Director’s position.

“The single position for the chairman and three Confederate directors have accepted their nominations and will be declared elected unopposed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM),” said Rau.

He said no nominations were received from the NGI Confederate for the Directors position as at the close of nominations last Friday however they can still nominate at the AGM in Lae on February 25, 2017.

“In the event that no nominations are received at the due time of close of nominations, the PNGRFL constitution allows for nominations to be moved and accepted on the floor at an AGM.

“Therefore the four NGI affiliated leagues can nominate their Director of choice on the floor of the AGM. It is also important to note that their nominee must be present at the AGM to accept his or her nomination as Director,” said Rau.

Meanwhile, five more leagues from the Southern Confederate were confirmed as affiliates after meeting all the requirements.

Central Premier League, Gamoga, Rigo, Pom Suburban and Hiri leagues are the five additional making the total number of affiliated leagues in the Southern Confederate to 18.

Rau said this brings the total number of affiliated leagues eligible to attend the PNGRFL AGM in Lae to 49.

He added the normal order of business of the AGM will be as stated on the notice of the meeting including the declaration and swearing in of the Chairman and four Confederate Directors.

Following the AGM, a General Meeting will be convened to receive reports from the leagues, discuss general issues and have presentations from invited guests on the Rugby League World Cup for men and women, International Rugby League Federation, local referees and officials, women’s rugby league, schoolboy’s development, Constitution and finance matters among other issues.

“We will have officials from the NRL, lawyers, financial advisors and other staff to address and inform our affiliated leagues while they are all in Lae regarding these events and issues and sort out any matters of concern,” said Rau.

He said this year’s calendar of events will also be endorsed at the AGM.
All presidents of the 49 affiliated leagues will be in Lae on Friday, February 24 for the meeting next day at the Lae International Hotel starting at 10am and leave on Sunday February 26, 2017
