Workshop on forest management projects underway

A workshop to build capacity on project design in sustainable forest management is underway in Port Moresby.

The five-day workshop commenced on Monday, February 6, conducted by the United Nations Forum on Forest (UNFF) in collaboration with the PNG Forest Authority (PNGFA).

At the end of the workshop, government officers will be able to identify and formulate a project proposal that can be submitted to donor partners to consider and fund.

UNFF sustainable development officer, Benjamin Singer, highlighted that they are working in collaboration with PNGFA upon request of the Minister for Forest.

This is to provide support to PNGFA in mobilising financing for sustainable forest management in PNG.

Singer said the workshop focuses on a small number of international donors, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

He said however, the building blocks that are being learnt about at the workshop will be applicable to formulate projects for many other international, bilateral and regional donors.

The workshop is also being attended by officers from Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) and Climate Change Development Authority (CCDA).
