Western Province needs leadership

A Western Provincial Government staffer and a community leader are calling on Department of Personnel Management Secretary, John Kali, to fast track the acting appointment of a Provincial Administrator.

Edmond Gami, a staffer with the Governors Office, and Paiyo Bale, a community leader have called on Kali to fast track a National Executive Council (NEC) decision to appoint Ronald Dmonai as the Acting Provincial Administrator to run the Provinces affairs.

The Western Provinces political leadership is in tatters following the conviction and jailing if Governor, Ati Wobiro, and his Provincial Administartor, Dr. Modowa Gumoi; the dismissal from office of North Fly MP, Boka Kondra, following a leadership tribunal; the death of South Fly MP, Aide Ganasi; and the recent arrest of Deputy Provincial Governor, Abini Gesele.

In a media statement, Gami said the NEC had appointed Dmonai on December 16, 2016 for a three month effect however this has not been done yet.

He said the appointment was done after the alleged illegal appointment of Gull Gorgom to Acting Provincial Administrator by Gesele, who has been arrested and charged for false assumption of authority.

He said now there is no leadership to ensure the Provincial Government is operating.

“I want John Kali to fast track the appointment because currently Western Provincial Administration is not in order, meaning there is no control of mechanism in the Provincial Government.”

Community leader, Paiyo Bale, says “there is no other option to manage the affairs of the Province but our only hope is right now is in John Kali’s hands to fast track the appointment.

“The 200,000 plus people are suffering from lack of basic service delivery from the Provincial Administration,” he said.
