Six wounded on New Year’s Eve

Six people in the Tewai-Siassi District of Morobe Province are recovering from wounds sustained on New Year’s Eve.

Four people were allegedly attacked by five drunkards after returning home from a crusade at Kanjarua village of the Sialum LLG.

In retaliation, relatives of the victims injured two of the suspects.

The situation would have gotten out of hand if police had not responded promptly.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Augustine Wampe, said there are no police in Sialum right now but some were stationed there for the festive period, where they managed to calm the situation.

The four victims were taken to Braun Hospital for treatment while the suspects were treated at Sialum Health Centre and later taken to Finschhafen to be dealt by police.

Wampe said those were the only reports received from the rural policing as of yesterday.

Police are yet to establish the reason behind the attack.
