Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent Augustine Wampe

Six wounded on New Year’s Eve

Four people were allegedly attacked by five drunkards after returning home from a crusade at Kanjarua village of the Sialum LLG.

In retaliation, relatives of the victims injured two of the suspects.

The situation would have gotten out of hand if police had not responded promptly.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Augustine Wampe, said there are no police in Sialum right now but some were stationed there for the festive period, where they managed to calm the situation.

Four people die in land clash

Reports reaching police said the fight, during Christmas Eve, was between the Saiko and Atwara villagers of the Ward 2 council area of Garaina Local Level Government, Bulolo district, Morobe Province.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Augustine Wampe, said a man, a woman and her 2-year-old girl were allegedly murdered by the Atwara villagers. As a result, the Saiko villagers retaliated and murdered an Atwara man at Wau and wounded another back at Garaina.

Unfortunately, police could not attend to the matter as the area is inaccessible.

Police establish presence in rural Morobe

Four police personnel took up the post there last Thursday.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Augustine Wampe, said that part of Morobe has a big law and order issue.

He said the people had been calling for police presence for years now, and they have finally identified members to serve there.

The PPC, who went with the members on MV Labi to Morobe Patrol Post last week, said they withdrew police presence there in early 2000 due to the deterioration of accommodation and the police station.
