Porgera authority swears in interim board

The special purposes authority for Porgera, known as the Porgera Development Authority, has sworn in its interim board members.

The small but significant ceremony took place on Friday in Port Moresby in front of the secretary for Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs, whom the authority is mandated to report to.

However, the Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs is not the only Government office the Special Purposes Authority is mandated to report to; the first arm of Government it has to report to is the Local Level Government.

This was stressed by both the Porgera LLG president and the Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs Secretary during the swearing in of the four interim board members.

Secretary of the Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs, Dickson Guina, importantly stressed on good governance to deliver to the people.

Meantime, the interim Porgera Development Authority board chairman, Thompson Kolera, gave assurance that they will do their best to restore the hope the people once had with the special purposes authority.

While the appointment is for a period of three years, Guina explained that this is just an interim board; the full board will be appointed once the Porgera Landowners Association identify four of their representatives.
