PNG Medical Board to screen Cuban doctors

The PNG Medical Board will thoroughly screen all Cuban doctors to be recruited to work in Papua New Guinea.

That is the bold statement from PNG Medical Board chairman Dr Osborne Liko recently, regarding the MOU agreement signed by PNG and Cuba Governments paving way for health professionals from Cuba to work in rural areas of the country.

“Medical Board’s mandatory requirement is the paramount safety of our people, and we have found out with the Ministry of Health in Cuba and the universities we had intervened with, their practise and regulations are very strict to make sure they confirm to the standards in their accreditation of their training,” Dr Liko said.

“We will screen and choose those that will fit into our system to protect safety of our people.

“As per MOU, we will get into orientation (of selected doctors) into our standard of cure, treatment standard and also diseases.

“We assure that our standards of regulative requirement will be met so safety of people is protected in every means.”
