Man fined K1,500 for traffic infringement

An unlicensed driver was fined K1, 500 by Tabubil District Court last week.

Stanley Navara of Londary village in Central Province was found guilty of the three traffic offences by the court in Western Province.

The defendant was given a month to pay K1, 500 and failure will  see him serve six months on the three charges, totalling 18 months behind bars.

From police brief provided, Navara was found to be unlicensed driving a motor vehicle when a routine police patrol caught him at Old Wangbin Settlement and taken to the police station.

At the police station, the vehicle checked by police found that the vehicles registration and the insurance papers had expired in 2015.

Navara was arrested and charged for, driving without a licence, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle. 

The defendant told the court that he was unaware that the papers of the vehicles when the owner gave him to drive.  

 Tabubil District Court magistrate Billy Pidu said it’s a lame excuse when you are literate.

He told the defendant that if the vehicle happened to cause an accident, the lives of the people who would have been injured will not be paid by the Third Party Insurance because the vehicle was uninsured.
