Lae Police to clamp down on faulty vehicles

Lae Police will be clamping down on faulty vehicles to make the city road safer.

“I am warning vehicle owners to fix their vehicles or be dealt with by Police,” warned Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr.

“This is a major cause of traffic accidents in the city.”

The Lae police boss, said traffic police, Morobe Land Transport Board, National Road Safety Council and MVIL will be working together in this traffic operation.

“I have taken keen interest and leadership in arranging the first meeting and involving everyone in this. We need to work in partnership to achieve road safety in Lae City,” Wagambie Jnr said.

“We had started off targeting PMV buses (last month), but will now go on to all vehicles.

“A large number of traffic offences are committed at night.

“We will be conducting traffic operations at night soon, so I am urging vehicle owners to fix their vehicles or be dealt with.

“There will be no Traffic Infringement Notices given to repeat offenders and those serious defects.

“PMV owners and vehicle owners must understand that lives of people are at stake here.”
