Dick confirmed as Chief Ombudsman

Michael Dick had been confirmed to the position of the Chief Ombudsman of Papua New Guinea after acting in the position for close to a year.

Governor-General Bob Dadae yesterday officiated at the swearing in of the new Chief Ombudsman at Government House in Port Moresby.

The Chief Ombudsman term is for six years.

Dick is a former accountant with the Ombudsman Commission.

“The Ombudsman Commission being an anti-corruption entity must be seen to live up to the purpose of its establishment,” Dick said the swearing in ceremony.

The work of the Commission is defined by the Constitution. We must understand corruption, what it is, define it and understand how it affects and impact our society so that we can be able to address it.”

The Chief Ombudsman said the commission began an awareness program to inform voters about the various forms of corruption during polling, and during the election period will be part of the observer team.
