PNG Musik Awards locked in for weekend

Artists in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific region have been struggling for years to be recognised for their efforts.

However, the YumiFM PNG Musik Awards is the only event of its scale, to do so.

It was introduced in 2005 when the management of the radio station saw the short fall in this area.

To date, YumiFM Radio personality tuner “Kasty” says there is still no proper music industry or government support.

For the last 13 years, together with willing sponsors, PNGFM has been staging the YumiFM PNG Musik Awards to recognise artists’ contribution.

The 13th YumiFM PNG Musik Awards is two nights away, set for this Saturday, April 29, at the Lamana Gold Club.

From initially 18, the categories have narrowed to 12 this year, to make the competition more challenging for artists.

Categories include:

·         Justin Kili Hall of Fame Award

·         Justin Kili Lifetime Achievement Award

·         Group of the Year Award

·         Artist of the Year Award

·         Song of the Year Award

·         Best Duet/ Collaboration Award

·         South Pacific Group of the Year Award

·         Studio Label of the Year Award

·         Listeners Choice-Artist of the Year

·         Listeners Choice-Song of the Year

Sponsors pledged support, recognising the effort of the radio station as a fantastic opportunity to build local music industry, which still has a long way to go.

Some sponsors include: Keynote music house along with Pepsi, Indomie Kakaruk noodles, Twisties among others.
