Central Regional to see 27 candidates contesting

A total of 27 candidates will be contesting the Central Province governor seat in the 2017 National Election.

Five more candidates nominated on the last day of nominations yesterday, with Sai Misina closing nominations at 2:45pm.

Running against the sitting governor Kila Haoda and 23 other male candidates are three female candidates, Rufina Peter from Goilala, Philomena Kassman from Kairuku-Hiri and Laeko Bala from Rigo.

Confirming these update, Election Manager for Central Province Kila Egaba said the nomination period in general was peaceful and hopes this carries through to the rest of the election period.

Other open seats within Central Province who confirmed candidates as of close of nominations yesterday are Goilala Open and Rigo Open.

Goilala Open saw Goilala Aloysius Amanea Motup nominate at 3:45pm being the last candidate, bringing the total number to 30 candidates as of 4pm yesterday.

Rigo Open confirms to have received 39 candidates, 8 of whom are females. Robert Leo was the last candidate, closing nominations at 3:14pm.

Central Province Election Manager Egaba encourages people to take ownership of this election in order to have peaceful outcome.
