​NCD: Polling starts at McGregor

Polling has started at the McGregor Police Barracks at Nine-Mile today after the Electoral Commission gave approval.

NCD had its one day polling on Friday however, those at McGregor could not cast their votes because there were no officials there.

Wives of police officers said they waited till lunch time yesterday before they left for the Bush wara polling booths at Nine-Mile.

The Electoral Commission allowed an extended one day polling for the barracks.

This morning, electoral officials brought election materials under police escort to McGregor at 9am before addressing the voters.

One of the presiding officers told voters 640 ballot papers were brought, as per the number of voters on the Electoral Roll. 10 extra papers were taken there as well.

The population of eligible voters at the barracks is more than 640.

Polling commenced at 11:30 today with duty officers being the first to cast their votes. Among those was the Bomana Police Training College Commandant, Perou N'Dranou.

McGregor resident, Dianne Kumbia, told Loop PNG the barracks always had a polling booth in previous elections.

She said they waited till 12 midday yesterday then went down to Nine-Mile to cast their votes, only to find out they were late because ballot papers were used.

She expressed disappointment over the number of voters and ballot papers brought, saying the voting population has increased since their children have grown up.
