Youth office needs over K100 million

The National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) needs over K100 million to implement its nationwide programs.

“NYDA needs more funds to roll out its youth development and empowerment programs to all provinces, districts and LLGs,” said NYDA director general Norit Luio.

“Including the implementation of the three key impact priority projects tasked to it by the O’Neill-Dion Government in the 2012 Alotau Accord.

“The three key impact priority projects included the revitalisation of the National Youth Development Authority, establishment of the national youth development institute and youth friendly centres, and also the development of the national youth employment and entrepreneurship framework,” Luio said.

He added that the NYDA regulation has already been completed with the NYDA Bill enacted and passed by Parliament in 2014.

“The organisational restructure was approved by the salaries conditions and monitoring committee (SCMC) of the Department of Personnel Management in March 2015.

“But we cannot recruit from outside as yet to fill key vacant positions due to the standing embargo imposed on external recruitment by the National Government.

“Overall, the NYDA will need well over K100 million to deliver these projects,” said Luio.
