Tigers crowned as 2016 Digicel Cup champions

The Lae Snax Tigers thrashed the defending premiers Rabaul Agmark Gurias 14-8 at the Sir John Guise stadium in Port Moresby today to be crowned the 2016 Digicel cup Rugby champions.

Gurias only try by Wiliam Aquila in the first half put them in front to lead 4-0 but couldn’t last when the Tigers snatched back with a converted try in the 20th minute to lead 6-4.

With Gurias play maker Stanly Olo went off field due to knee injury, it creates more oportunity for the Tigers.

After forcing several attacks on Gurias defence, the Tigers set in again when Noel Joel picked a dummy ball and ran through Gurias defence grounding the ball to extend their lead to 12-4 at break.

After the break, both teams struggle through the first 20 minutes maintainig the scoreline.

Tigers try in the 64th minute was denied after a forward pass.

Gurias than found an opening and once again sending in William Aquila through the corner post for an uncoverted try in the 70th minute to minimize the lead to 12-8.

Tigers end the match with a penalty kick that sealed their victory to be crowned the Digicel cup champions.
