Tap into spin-off benefits urges Minister Maru

Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru is urging his people to participate in the soon to be built Chicken, Grain and Cocoa Innovation project to be located at Huaripmo village.

The project is to be developed in the Special Economic zone within the Sepik Plains of Yangoru-Saussia District of East Sepik Province.

Maru, who is also the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry, said the ground work for the Government funded project will start in the coming weeks.

He warned his people to participate in the spin-off benefits or they will be bystanders as people from throughout the province will be looking for business.

Maru said the factory will buy cassava, corn and chicken from the villagers and 300 permanent jobs will also be created at the factory.

He added that a K2 million cheque will be presented to PNG Power next week to connect electricity from Yegimbolie down to Kiniambu and the project site.

Meanwhile, LR Group of Companies Chairman Illan Weiss when officiating during the ground breaking ceremony last month highlighted that the people will be heavily involved in this project.

LG Group is the project developer of the K150 million project.

“The project will be developed on 5,000 hectres of State land and it will be used to grow maze, soya beans, corn and cassava that will be manufactured into stock feed for the chickens that will be raised by the farm. Later on, it will be exported to other provinces in PNG with the intention of replacing the importation of stock feed from overseas,” Weiss said.

“A modern High technology hatchery will also be built on this farm so we don’t have to import day old chicks anymore from overseas. This hatchery will serve the project as well as the poultry industry in the country.

“This will be the first of its kind to be introduced in the Yangoru-Saussia District. The project will also include Chicken meat and eggs, broilers and layers. We will reduce the prices for the customers in the District by at least 30-40 percent compared to the current prices,” said Weiss.
