Supreme Court refuses Kange bail application

An application seeking bail at the Supreme Court has been refused to lawyer and businessman Felix Kange, who has been detained at the police holding cell at Waigani since June 2.

The attempt at bail before the high court was refused after a three-man Supreme Court bench was not satisfied that Kange established a case that his continued detention was unjustified.

The court was of the view that there were no recent complaints of Kange’s detainment, medical conditions, business administration or family welfare since his last affidavit dated July 29.

It was also of the court’s view that Kange failed to establish that witnesses in the case will not be interfered with. Despite those witnesses being in Australia, the court took into consideration the availability of various means of electronic and other communication methods.

Kange has been in custody for the past three months after he was arrested and charged on June 2 over the alleged murder of his wife, the late Regina Morove, at his family home at Garden Hills on the night of May 14.

His case at the Committal Court remains with police completing their investigation into the killing allegations against him.
