SP PNG Hunters fans in Port Moresby were applauded for their great support during the match against Souths Logan Magpies at the Sir John Guise Stadium on the weekend.
PNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka said in a statement that with the stadium filled to capacity (15,000), that augured well for the future of sports in this country.
He thanked the many thousands of spectators who turned up to watch the game for their good behaviour on the night.
“This painted a very positive picture that on the back of national unity and great team work, we can achieve many great things for PNG.
“It clearly demonstrates that we can host events of such magnitude as the Pacific Games in three weeks.
“We are grateful that rugby league as a leading sport in this country was given the opportunity to test out the brand new stadium,” Tsaka said.
