Queen approves honours awards for PNG

Politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen, public servants and other Papua New Guineans have been honoured in the 2015 Queens Honours List for services to their communities.

Enga Governor Chief Peter Ipatas was appointed as a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) for his distinguished service to the community through his significant contribution to the economic and social development, particularly in health, education and vocational training, of the Enga Province as its Governor and Member of National Parliament

Judge Warwick Andrew, businessman Kostas George Constantinou and longtime Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen were listed to become knight bachelors.

Judge Andrew was cited for his long and dedicated service to the community and judiciary as a former judge in the national and supreme courts and as head of several commissions of inquiry and his strong commitment to legal education for Papua New Guineans.

Mr Constantinou as the head of the Lamana and other business entities was recognised for services to the community and sport, to business particularly in the area of tourism and hospitality, the banking sector and the promotion of regional investment relations.

Mr Trawen was honoured for distinguished public service as the Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for three terms.

The Order of Saint Michael and Saint George was awarded to the Governor of the Bank of PNG Loi Bakani and Member for Tewai Siassi and Fisheries Minister Mao Zeming.

Hela Governor Anderson Aigiru, High Commissioner to Great Britain Winnie Kiap, Health Minister and Moresby North West MP Michael Malabag and former New Britain Palm Oil chief executive Nick Mark Thompson were appointed as Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

Other distinguished Papua New Guineans are recognized as Officers of the Order of the British Empire, (OBE), Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) and British Empire Medal (BEM).
