Police sign deal to counter human trafficking

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed this morning between the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and the International Organization of Migration at the Police Headquarters in Port Moresby to counter human trafficking.

The MoU signified an agreement for IOM to help and assist the RPNGC in boarder protection in coordination with other law enforcement agencies in instances of counter trafficking in human beings, assistance to internally display persons, human trafficking emergencies as well as tribal conflict mitigation and resolution.

Commissioner for Police Garry Baki says it is of great importance that the RPNGC also now moves in the direction of knowing that there is an MoU binding us and what we need to do order of being part of this international organization dealing with migration.

The MoU signing with IOM is the first significant agreement that has taken place as the RPNGC does not have a MoU like that in place so this will give the RPNGC an open mind of the challenges and responsibilities they are yet to face in preparation of some more international events coming up in later.
