PNG will have no say in opening of mine

The Papua New Guinea Government will have no say in the opening of the Panguna Mine in Bougainville.

The disagreement over mine royalty and allegations of pollution led to a decade of civil war by the customary landowners and the PNG Government.

"The opening of the mine will depend on the wishes of ABG and Bougainville people," Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said in Parliament today.

The PM also put on record that the transferring of 17.4 percent shareholding in Bougainville Copper Ltd is not a compensation payment.

BCL are the owners of Panguna Mine.
