Mothers given chance to showcase skills

A church organisation is giving mothers in Port Moresby an opportunity this December.

With support of the StopNShop management, Relief Society has organised for mothers to turn their home-making skills into their money maker.

Beginning last Saturday, the Port Moresby stake saw mothers bringing prepared food, handmade jewellery and bilums to sell at the StopNShop, Waigani Central premises.

According to Sister Takataina, a member of the Relief Society presidency and organiser, this will go on every Saturday of this month.

“The purpose here is to support these mothers to be self-reliant, which is in line with the values taught at church. It’s about being stable both spiritually and temporally they need that change in life,” she said.

Sr Takataina is also a missionary from the Church of Jesus Christ of Later  Day Saints.

She was with the mothers when Loop PNG arrived at the temporary market.

“We are grateful to StopNShop for this and we hope this arrangement will be a permanent one for us,” Takataina added.
