K29 million in DSIP funds used to develop Kokopo

The capital of East New Britain, Kokopo has seen more than K29 million in District Services Improvement Programs (DSIP) funds spent from 2013-2015 to develop the district.

This was revealed yesterday in a joint presentation led by Provincial administrator, Akuila Tubal at the 2016 Leaders’ Summit.

The presentation highlighted the impact developments, achievements and challenges of the expenditure of the DSIP funds in Kokopo- a district which comes under four Local Level Governments (LLG) and 84 wards.

It was shown priorities for the district lie in areas including Economic Empowerment, Education, Health and HIV/AIDS Prevention and Gender Equality. 

The DSIP has seen the roll out of close to 500 projects in the Kokopo district.

Some of the highlights include the purchasing of five ambulances, two police vehicles, six district vehicles and 6 LLG vehicles.

The education sector saw 815 students in 2015 being sponsored with scholarships to attend tertiary institutions around the country. In 2013, only 250 students received sponsorship.

In the agricultural area, so far 96 000 seedlings have been distributed to all LLG’s for Cocoa/Rice Farming Projects.

Tubal finished by assuring the national government that all institutional establishments in the province are functioning in all political and administrative levels.
