Justice centres will be set up in rural areas, says Pala

The government is setting up community justice centres in districts to help the village court officials and peace order committees.

Minister for Justice and Attorney General Ano Pala today in Parliament said the aim of the Centre is to promote the work of village court officials in the rural areas.

He said the officials are now being paid fortnightly and the Centre will be used as their go to venue for information.

Pala was responding to the Obura-Wonenara MP, Mehrra Minne Kipefa, regarding the issue.

However, the Attorney General's response did not go down well with Sinasina Yongumgl MP Kerenga Kua, who asked him about the land mediators who are in the same category as village court officials but were not paid.

Pala said he did not have information on that and will ask the Lands Department to look into the matter and respond accordingly.
