Jokema dominates music awards

Papua New Guinea’s hottest band Jokema has once again dominated the YumiFM Digicel PNG Musik Awards, collecting four awards last night.

The awards night was held at the Lamana Gold Club, Port Moresby, witnessed by a sold out crowd of fans.

Jokema took out its first award of the night beating nominees Stagajah and Masalai Crew for the Group of the Year.

The band’s second award was the Album of the Year with its third album Niugini Flaiva. Jokema beat nominees Demas Saul (Pul Kanu) and Stagajah (Sailor Boy) to claim the award.

Hit song New Ireland won the Longest Charting Song for the band, beating Painim Pis by Demas Saul and Skul Meri by Robert Danaben.

Jokema’s fourth award was the Chart Consistency Award which it claimed over Tarvin Tounie and Hot Wills.

Jokema’s front man Honlly Isaac, when receiving their first award, thanked fans for all the support and YUMIFM and the sponsors for making the awards night possible.

Other winners, Wah’koo Boys took out Newest Group of the Year and Song of the Year for Lewa Sogeri.

Male Artist of the Year went to Demas Saul, Female Artist of the Year was taken by Sinklaine and Best Collaboration went to Taz ft Troublesome and Prote J.

Solomon Island group Dezine received the South Pacific Artist of the Year and Studio Label of the Year went to both Pro Ed Production based in Goroka and Panakatshu Recording in Port Moresby. Panakatshu also won this award in 2014 and 2015.

Hall of Fame went to Basil Greg and Lifetime Achievement was received by Ben Waineti.

Tounie received the Rookie of the Year, Listeners Choice Artist of the Year, and Best Duet of the Year with Jhard Blacky. 

Listeners Choice for Group of the Year went to Stagajah and Song of the Year was taken out by Meri Nakanai by Narxson.
