Jokema Band advocates against youth suicide

Jokema Band is on a quest to fight youth suicide by establishing a program to raise awareness nationwide about the issue.

The band began its awareness campaign with its national tour promoting the launch of its third album Niugini Flavour.

All proceeds from the tour will be used to launch the campaign in 2016 to fight youth suicide.

Jokema lead vocals Honlly Isaac spoke strongly about the issue during the recent announcement of the album launch and tour.

“This is an issue that I keep close to my heart as I have had personal experiences in my family.

“People don’t like to talk about the issue but we can save lives by simply talking about it and reaching out to the youths and the kids who have problems that can lead them to commit suicide.

“By doing this awareness, we want to get the young people to talk openly about their problems and encourage them to get help instead of dealing with it on their own which mentally affects them,” said Isaac.

As part of the initiative, the band also plans to stage a free open air concert to shine a message nationwide on the issue and in the future set up a help line with trained counsellors.

The national tour will see Jokema perform live in Port Moresby this Saturday 5 Dec, Buka on the 12, Mt Hagen on the 19 and Kokopo on the 26 after kicking off the tour in Lae last weekend.
