Garment factory to create more jobs

The proposed garment and textile factory to be built in the country will create employment says Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru.

“I am really excited, I think this industry has the potential to grow in this country and create jobs for our people.”

“I totally support the project and look forward to visiting the site during the construction, and giving my personal support to the project,” Maru told Loop PNG.

Kathleen Ipi Johnson, owner and managing director of After Dark Fashions will fund the building of the factory at a cost of K10 million.

Konebada Petroleum Park in the Kairuku- Hiri District of Central Province will be the site of the factory.

During the ground-breaking ceremony early this month, the Central woman said: “The total cost will be K10 million, but priority right now is the construction of the building which will cost around K2.5 million.”

“The factory will probably be standing after 12 months depending on the ground work, in making sure the foundation is right before the building is built.

“We will be starting with a simple line of production so we have allocated 14 machines so we are looking at 100 women to start (work) with.”
