ExxonMobil aids school with teachers’ houses

ExxonMobil, operator of PNG LNG Project, in its efforts to improve the quality of education in its project impacted areas have handed over four new teachers houses to four primary schools near the LNG Plant site.

The first house was officially opened for the head teacher of Papa Elementary School on Wednesday Sept 1, 2016 at Papa Village.

ExxonMobil believes that education is a fundamental part in giving children the best possible future and ultimately driving continued social and economic development of PNG and as a result, it has invested heavily in education within its workforce and the community it operates in.

ExxonMobil Lead Country Manager, Andrew Barry says PNG LNG is very proud to continue its support to communities in its project impacted areas in PNG.

He said teachers are a fundamental in developing and inspiring the future leaders of PNG and providing a conducive environment for our dedicated teachers is important as it enables successful teaching and learning outcomes for students and in turn promotes children’s chances of achieving better learning outcomes.

Deputy Provincial Administrator for Central Province, Edward Kila said houses for teachers has always been a great concern not only in Central Province but throughout the country adding that such support from partners like Exxon Mobil is well appreciated by the Central provincial government and the administration.

Kila appealed to the four schools and the communities to look after the gifts and thanked ExxonMobil for recognizing their need.

“The infrastructure will contribute greatly to improving the quality of education in Hiri- West of the Central Province,” he says.

Each of the new teachers’ houses comes with four bedrooms, a 3000L water tank, water pump and power supply.

Papa Elementary School, Porebada, Boera and Lealea Primary Schools are the proud and lucky recipients of these houses.
