Do not play with people’s lives says Juffa

People’s lives must not be politicised.

That is the words from Northern Province Governor Gary Juffa when urging Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to release outstanding disaster funds for his people dating back to 2012.

His comments followed another flood washing away the wet crossing at Girua last night, the second time in the space of three months.

“It exceptionally important that the national government make available the funds that is due to the province, that is about K3 million promised by the prime minister in 2012 at the Independence Oval.

“We were promised K5 million, together with Gulf and SHP, but only received K2 million.

“And efforts to follow up as been futile, I have gone to the Secretary for Treasury on many occasion, and he has missed lead me on many occasion, and I want the prime minister to take note because for many instances his commitment are not upheld by the departments.

“Had we had these funds we will have built the Management Disaster Centre that we have planned to build at that time, and respond to many of this situations (disasters) in due time,” Juffa said.
