Delayed Kandep Open Seat recount to start

Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato confirmed that the delayed recount of the Kandep Open Seat will start tomorrow.

The counting was supposed to start earlier last week but was delayed because of a protest by the sitting MPs supporter and also unavailability of the PNG Electoral Commission lawyer in Wabag.

“The count will start definitely tomorrow,” Gamato told Loop PNG this afternoon.

He revealed that the Electoral Commissioner lawyer is on route to Wabag from Mt Hagen by road.

“I am glad all the petitions gone before the court was dealt with and now we are cleared to do the court ordered recount in Wabag, Police have beef security and counting will start tomorrow,” Gamato said.

The counting will be held in Wabag Primary.

The Supreme Court yesterday refused to allow a Slip Rule application that was filed by sitting Kandep MP, Don Polye to revisit the earlier Court decision ordering the recount.

Meanwhile, Enga Provincial Police Commander George Kakas confirmed to Loop PNG today that the counting for the Kandep Open Seat have yet to start because they are waiting for the Electoral Commission lawyer.

Polye is still the Kandep MP as the re-count will be done for the 2012 election ballot papers after a successful petition by Alfred Luke Manase.
