Defence chief: Soldiers discipline a big focus

A lot of effort has been put into the issue of discipline with regards to the conduct of soldiers.

PNGDF Chief of Staff, Colonel Mark Goina, says that this is the reason why there have been directives issued by the Commander’s office to deal with rowdy soldiers.

Under the new directives any soldier found to have broken any military or civilian laws within two years of their pass out will be directly removed from the force.

Another concept that Goina highlighted was the Company of Excellence Concept that is being carried out at both the 1RPIR at Taurama and 2RPIR at the Moem barracks.

Colonel Goina explains that this concept is geared towards bringing up the standards of discipline and professionalism.

He says that more emphasis will also be placed on training of other ranks and junior non-commissioned officers to re-instill the ethics and behaviour both within and outside the barracks.
